Quavo and Takeoff: The Duo Behind the Orange Booth
If you arrived at the Hotel Lobby AI trend through a cat video, here is who is actually in the original clip.
Migos, then Unc & Phew
Quavo (Quavious Marshall) and Takeoff (Kirsnick Ball) were uncle and nephew from Lawrenceville, Georgia, and with Offset formed Migos — the group that put the triplet flow at the centre of 2010s rap with “Versace”, “Bad and Boujee” and the Culture albums. In 2022 the two of them released music as a duo, Unc & Phew, and “Hotel Lobby” was the single that defined that chapter.
The performance
Their A COLORS SHOW session, filmed in the series’ single-colour studio in burnt orange, is a two-person take under one hanging mic: Quavo leading, Takeoff answering. It passed 100 million views and helped establish the visual format behind the trend: the set, framing and turn-taking. This site uses an original AI reference instead of that footage.
Why the remakes feel like tributes
Takeoff was killed in Houston in November 2022, months after the performance. The AI remakes of 2026 — couples, grandparents, pets, cartoon characters trading his and Quavo’s verses — mostly read as affection for a clip people love, which is part of why the trend spread so fast and so widely.
